Timeline FAQ

Quick Answers

Why do the dates show ranges instead of exact days?
+
Because each sector's date is set by its own Delegated Act, and most are still in drafting. The pattern is fixed though: Delegated Act adopted → published data requirements → 18–24 month transition → enforcement. Only batteries have a hard date today (18 February 2027, under their own regulation).
Which dates are already certain?
+
Three are locked by law: 19 July 2026 — EU Central DPP Registry operational (ESPR Art. 13); 19 July 2026 — unsold apparel/footwear destruction ban for large enterprises (Art. 25); 18 February 2027 — battery passports mandatory (Reg. 2023/1542). Everything else follows its Delegated Act.
My factory makes garments — why should other sectors' dates matter?
+
Two reasons. Steel/aluminium (2026) covers inputs like zippers, buttons and trims — your hardware suppliers will be asked for data before you are. And the earlier sectors are the live rehearsal: the battery passport's registry, identifier and customs mechanics in 2027 are exactly what textiles inherit in 2028–29.
Where do these dates come from?
+
The ESPR Working Plan 2025–2030 (adopted by the European Commission), the ESPR text itself (Regulation (EU) 2024/1781), and the Battery Regulation 2023/1542. We update this table when a Delegated Act is adopted — the news page tracks each one.
